“LOVE”
You may have seen a lot of this today, some strange people in your class scrawling the word “love” onto each others’ wrists or arms? And to some people, this might be a really obscure or confusing sight? Why are they doing this? It’s a bit weird, isn’t it?
Now, if I wasn’t such a nosey hipster geek and didn’t like to be kept in the loop of things these days… I probably would be too distracted by my college course to know or have the time to research it myself..
So, just incase you guys - like I would be, were confused by this, I decided I’d do a little write up or explanation of it.. Because I personally think it’s a pretty captivating movement!
Now to the point!
Today (September 10th) can also be known as “World Suicide Prevention Day” (WSPD), which basically is an awareness day observed on the same date every year, in order to provide knowledge of the issue at hand of the ridiculously high amount of people committing suicide each year, and creating worldwide commitment and action to prevent suicides, with various activities around the world.
Ok, so now you’re nodding and wondering “well yes, but what has that got to do with people writing on their wrists/arms?” It’s coming, but first I have to tell you about this charity.. I promise it’s all going to make sense soon..
So now there’s this charity, you’ve probably heard of them - To Write Love On Her Arms (TWLOHA), and they’re a very passionate organisation dedicated to seeing hurting people that are depressed, trapped in addictions, that are self harming, feeling like they’ve no self worth, direction or hope in their life, and some of them with suicidal thoughts… This organisation has a heart for reaching to these people and leading them to the light, showing how important, incredible and loved they really are, restoring hope back into their life again.
They’re a pretty well known organisation, especially within teenagers and young adults. So it seems like because young guys in schools can’t sabotage their uniforms by wearing the colour yellow (the colour of the NSPD ribbon) to show their support to anyone who may be in a place of hurt and loneliness, thinking that suicide is their only way out, they’ve decided they’re showing their support by writing the word “LOVE” on their wrists/arms! How cool is that?
Just imagine if someone who had previously thought that absolutely no one cared about them had seen that, people in their class writing that simple word on themselves to openly show support to anyone thinking about taking their own life?
That’s powerful stuff right there.
Everybody needs to know that they’re cared about and loved, but they also need reassurance that they are in no way alone with whatever struggles they’re going through. Massive or minuscule.
And that’s what this was all about.. Showing the lonely, hurting people that they’re NOT alone in they’re struggles and that people are there to support them through it.
I hope this helped, and if any of you who read this ever feel completely alone - we have an ask box and someone who gets notified anytime there’s a message in there, don’t hesitate in contacting us even if you just need someone to talk to.
We’re always here for you guys, and you’re never, ever alone.
hello.. long time no post, huh? missed us? haha
well if you did, i’m the bearer of great news then! i’ve got something in the works, but it’s not quite finished yet.. so you’ll have to wait a liiiittle bit longer for that. But in the meantime, i decided to give you guys a little post on something i think we all struggle with from time to time..
And that would be keeping a strong hold on hope when it seems like life is just throwing constant stones at you, maybe even boulders and kicking you when you’re down to the point that you feel like there’s nothing you can possibly do to make it end.
Recently i’ve been feeling like everything has just been going so wrong, like i couldn’t do anything right for anyone, and that people were just asking more and more from me, i was trying so hard and i felt like i had nothing more to give. I honestly can tell you that i felt hopeless.
And it’s ok to feel like that every once in a blue moon when times are stressful, but what i keep having to learn and remind myself over and over is, that no matter how tough the situation is or how hopeless i feel - it’s really not the end.
it’s not going to be like that forever, even if i can’t see a way out.
It’s only a temporary situation and i can’t let it mold or define who i am because i’ve lost sight of my hope, i need to continually realise that i was made to face tougher stuff than this. A few teachers are pushing me really hard to get the best results from me, things aren’t great at home, my friendships aren’t doing too well, i’ve got no time to myself, and all of the rest of it - that is OK, because honestly.. it’s only a temporary situation.
That’s always the decision you gotta make, are you going to let a temporary situation mold and define you into a person you wouldn’t want to be, for a lifetime? Or are you going to let it defeat you and give up on everything because you can’t see a way out?
Well let me answer that for you - you’re not going to. Because people love you, people depend on you, and more importantly they believe in you. We believe in you. You have the strength to get through whatever tries to get in your way. So please stay strong.
Just because you can’t see a way out of whatever troubles you’re in, doesn’t mean that you’re going to be stuck there for good. No matter how much it seems like that, things DO get better. Even if everything around you is saying they won’t.
cling to your little light of hope, don’t give up. it will get better.
‘Sometimes bravery isn’t the roaring battle cry, most of the time it can be the little voice at the end of the day that whispers, “let’s try again tomorrow”.’
